Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper and pollster, Ben Ephson has said it is beyond the bounds of possibility for Founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress and Former President Jerry John Rawlings to take over his party.
In a phone conversation with Fiifi Banson on ‘Anopa Kasapa’ on Kasapa 102.5FM, the Pollster indicated that the sidelining of the founder of the party among other factors set up the NDC for defeat.
Mr Ephson added that though the Former President’s lackadaisical attitude contributed to the party’s defeat in the recent elections, yet the unpleasant comments made against the founder was also a major factor.
” I think that it was two things, yes he was lackadaisical and also the party kept him out because there are people who are in the NDC because of Rawlings.”
In his general view, Ben Ephson indicated that the basis for NDC’s lose was because certain persons in the party were not recognised.
The absence of the former president on the NDC campaign trail in 2016 was so conspicuous that it become the talk of the town.
Apart from Cape Coast where the NDC launched its national campaign in August, Mr Rawlings was not seen at any major campaign event, including the manifesto launch of the party in Sunyani in late September.
He refused to endorse John Mahama when he attended the NDC Cape Coast campaign launch but asked the party supporters to wait till after the elections before he would go round the country to rebuild the party.
