National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has been charged by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has formally been slapped with four charges over an explosive audio recording leaked last week.

Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is facing charges of threat of harm, conspiracy to commit harm, rioting and assaulting a public officer.

Earlier, supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) blocked the main road in front of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to demand the release of National Chairman of the party, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo.

The NDC National Chairman on Monday, March 4, 2019 reported himself to the CID after failing to honor their invite days ago.

The charges slapped on Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo are as a result of a leaked tape purportedly containing his voice inciting some NDC members to wage war against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa and also make "life uncomfortable" for the ruling New Patriotic Party.

The meeting between the NDC National Chairman and the party members was held after the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Though the NDC has debunked claims that the leaked audio is that of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, hence alleging it has been doctored; the NDC National Chairman was invited by the CID for interrogation.

He has been granted bail with two sureties, namely; the NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the party's Greater Accra Regional Chairman Joseph Ade Coker.

However, Counsel for Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Victor Kwadwogah Adawudu has indicated that the legal team will appeal the charges and also added their client will return to the CID on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
