Foemer President John Dramani Mahama’s hope of being retained as the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2020 presidential elections has been given a massive lifeline.

About 94 Members of Parliament (MPs) in the party have pledged to provide huge financial support to enable the ex-president make a historic comeback in 2020.

Making the disclosure, a top member of the party, Hon. Eric Opoku, who is the NDC MP for Asunafo South in the Brong Ahafo Region, said Mahama is the right person to lead the NDC in the coming elections.

He said he was part of the 94 MPs that recently pledged their unflinching support for Mr. Mahama, adding that they had even vowed to support the former president with cash.

“All the 94 NDC MPs that recently threw their support for Mr. Mahama have decided to contribute monies on a monthly basis to support the former president to lead the NDC to victory in 2020.

”We all walked to Mr. Mahama and told him that our party members in the various constituencies are calling on him to lead the NDC again as flagbearer for the 2020 polls and he accepted”, he said on Nhyira fm.

Hon. Opoku said the party would campaign on Mr. Mahama’s legacy as president in 2020, adding that the next elections would be a comparison between the legacies of John Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo.
