The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says the  Members of Parliament (MPs) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) awaiting ministerial appointments are dissatisfied, idle, or financially struggling.

Following President John Mahama’s pledge to appoint 60 ministers for his administration, only 56 positions have been filled, leaving four still vacant.

This delay has sparked speculation about growing frustration among MPs who are yet to be appointed to ministerial roles.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Dafeamekpor clarified that the MPs who have not been appointed are still deeply involved in constituency work and remain fully engaged in advancing the party's objectives.

“My MPs are not hungry, they are not idle, and they are not jobless,” he said.

He reassured the public that the MPs are continuing their duties with dedication and are fully committed to serving their constituents.

The chief whip also discussed the impact of President Mahama's ministerial pledge on the 2024 political landscape, noting that it prompted Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to make a similar promise of appointing 50 ministers.

“When flagbearer and now President Mahama promised to appoint 60 ministers, it compelled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, [2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party] to also promise 50,” Dafeamekpor noted. “I can say that, that kind of promise also endeared him to the people for the massive votes.”

Despite the ongoing ministerial appointments, Dafeamekpor stated that the NDC remains unified and focused on fulfilling its promises to the Ghanaian people.
