The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Effia Constituency Abdul Majeed Dokurgu has launched the "Clean-up Effia" project on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, marking a proactive move to address sanitation challenges in the West Regional suburb.
This three-month initiative, part of his comprehensive "Building Opportunities 4 Sustainable Solutions (BOSS)" program, aims to tackle the constituency's drainage issues and prevent flooding during the rainy season.
The project, which kicked off at 6 AM on May Day, focused initially on clearing trash and debris from the main drainages around Effia, particularly near the Effia-Kumah police park and Number 1 areas.
This launch marks the beginning of an ambitious annual cleaning drive that will run from May to July, strategically timed to precede and span the major rainy season.
"Our vision for Effia extends beyond politics—it's about creating sustainable solutions for our community's challenges," Dokurgu stated.

"Through the BOSS initiative, we're not just promising change; we're actively working towards it. The Clean Effia Project is our first step in transforming our constituency's sanitation landscape."
The Clean-up Effia project offers a multi-faceted approach to waste management. Every other Saturday for the next three months, volunteers will gather to clean surroundings, remove debris from drains, and facilitate free refuse collection.

To make disposal more accessible, refuse bins have been placed at vantage points throughout the community.
Recognising the effort required, Dokurgu's team provided water and snacks to all participants who turned out on May 1st.
"This isn't just my project; it's our community's project. By working together over these three months, we can ensure a flood-free rainy season and set a new standard for cleanliness in Effia," he added.
The BOSS program, under which this project falls, signifies his commitment to finding lasting solutions to the constituency's flooding challenges—a problem that has plagued Effia for years.
This initiative is more than a cleanup drive; it comes as a strategic move in Dokurgu's first-ever political campaign for the parliamentary seat.
By addressing this critical issue head-on, Dokurgu is not just cleaning drains; he's clearing a path to potentially unseat the incumbent in a constituency that has been an NPP stronghold for nearly three decades.
The Effia seat, held by the NPP since 1997, has long seemed impenetrable to the NDC.

The party's last victory in this constituency dates back to 1993, making it a daunting challenge for any new candidate. Yet, Dokurgu sees it not as an obstacle but as an opportunity.
"For over two decades, Effia has faced recurring flooding issues. It's time for a fresh perspective, a new approach. Through initiatives like the Clean-up Effia Project, we're showing that the NDC doesn't just seek power; we seek progress," he asserts.
As the 2024 elections approach, this three-month initiative offers voters a tangible example of his problem-solving approach, which he hopes will be a transformative journey for the Constituency.
