Former President John Dramani Mahama has condemned the shooting incident that took place in front of the Ashanti Regional office of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) during a high-powered meeting on Monday, 18 February 2019.

Describing the incident as a criminal act, Mr. Mahama called on the law enforcement agencies to immediately apprehend the culprits and deal with them in accordance to the laws of the country.

“I have just been briefed about a shooting incident that occurred in front of the Ashanti regional office of the NDC leading to the death of one person and injury to another. I strongly condemn this incident. It is clearly a criminal act, and I call on the police and relevant security agencies to investigate, immediately apprehend the culprits and subject them to the full rigours of the law,” Mr Mahama posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti regional police command has declared four persons wanted in connection with the shooting incident.

One person was shot dead and another in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after some gunmen disrupted a meeting between NDC executives and party members on Monday, February 18.

The police preliminary investigations suggest that the assailants are members of ‘The Hawks’, a vigilante group associated with the opposition NDC in the Ashanti Region.

Members of the vigilante group are said to have appeared at the Ashanti regional NDC office on motorbikes and fired gunshots which ended up killing one and leaving one injured while the NDC executives ran for cover.
