Vice president Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur has explained that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) slogan “Zu Za” represents a social contract between the people of Ghana and the party.

He stated that the Zu meant that the people of Ghana would vote for the NDC, while the Za was for the NDC, led by its leadership, to deliver socio-economic development and security to the people of Ghana.

Mr Amissah-Arthur, who was addressing a large crowd of party supporters at the Coronation Park at the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani, during the launch of the NDC’s manifesto, stated that the Zu Za was also for consistency in voting.

He explained that the people should vote for President Mahama to win the election with a resounding victory,  and they should also vote for the NDC parliamentary candidates so that President Mahama would have a comfortable majority in Parliament.

On that score, he announced that he would execute his side of the Zu Za contract by voting for President Mahama for the presidential election and Dr Zanetor Rawlings, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Korley Klottey Constituency.

Bawumia

Mr Amissah-Arthur stated that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the running mate to the 2016 NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had been resorting to lies and half-truths to paint a grim picture of the economy as though the economy was in shambles under the NDC-led administration.

He explained that he had wanted to react squarely to the lies and half-truths made by Dr Bawumia regarding the economy in the recent lectures, but a friend of his who was a lecturer at the University of Ghana advised him (Mr Amissah-Arthur) not to react to such political talks with a lecture, but should use political platforms to address them.

He said since then, he had decided to use each political platform to react to each of the issues raised by Dr Bawumia who he constantly referred to as “Dr B”.

Mr Amissah-Arthur wondered why Dr Bawumia deliberately confused the people with economic issues regarding nominal and real terms.

He then mentioned a friend who sold his house for GH¢25,000, but when he heard that a similar house in the same area had been sold for GH¢100,000, went to the one who bought the house years later to claim additional money from him as his balance.

He explained that what the first seller failed to recognise was that the area had received some facelift and that time had elapsed and, therefore, the house could not be sold at the same rate as the first one.

Manifesto

He said the NDC manifesto was written by people from diverse backgrounds numbering more than one hundred but the final product represented the united nature of the party led by its unifying leader, President Mahama.

He said although not all the ideas suggested were accepted and included in the manifesto, those who suggested the rejected ideas were not thrown away but were made to be part of the team.

He urged members of the party to take the manifesto to various houses and workplaces and explain the good intentions of the party to the people.
