The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Agbesi Benjamin, the party’s Oda Constituency Communication Officer, following allegations of misconduct linked to comments deemed contrary to the party’s values and outreach agenda.

The action was taken after an audio recording surfaced in which Mr. Benjamin is alleged to have discouraged a newly converted supporter from joining the NDC.

The remarks, according to party officials, run counter to the party’s ongoing efforts to attract new members, even as the Regional Executive Committee (REC) maintains that the NDC has become “the most attractive political party in Africa in recent times.”

At a virtual meeting held on January 21, 2026, the REC resolved to suspend Mr. Benjamin with immediate effect and referred the matter to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for thorough investigations and final determination.

As part of the directive, Mr. Benjamin has been asked to hand over all party property in his possession to the Constituency Secretary.

He is also expected to appear before the disciplinary committee to respond to the allegations, after which the committee will submit its findings and recommendations to the REC.

The suspension letter was signed by the Eastern Regional Secretary, Jamal Konneh, and copied to the party’s General Secretary, the Regional Executive Committee, the Oda Constituency Chairman, and the Chairman of the Regional Disciplinary Committee.

Party sources say the move underscores the NDC’s resolve to enforce discipline and protect its image as it intensifies grassroots mobilisation efforts.
