The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says he would scrap some of the newly created ministries the NPP government, if voted back to power.

The Akufo-Addo administration is known to now have 125 ministers, over 30 more ministers more than its predecessors.

He made this known while speaking during a retreat for the party’s election directors in Tamale,

“We are said to have achieved a world record of 125 ministers. Definitely, some of those ministries will go under an NDC government,” Mahama said.

The former President argued that a large number of ministers was a huge drain on public funds.

“Government expenditure has ballooned and they are not able to collect enough revenue to meet the high expenditure. And part of the high expenditure is because of the huge number of political appointments,” he added.

Mahama singled out, among others, the Procurement Minister as being redundant. According to him, there a whole Public Procurement Authority which was supervised by the Ministry of Finance.

In other news, President Akufo-Addo says he is ready to sacrifice his votes in 2020 in order to protect the environment.

According to him, he is not bothered by how many votes he loses but is more concerned about the maintenance of the environment.

The President said this during an interaction with people at Breman Asikuma in the Central Region.
