Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, exudes confidence in Nigeria's ability to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Coach Finidi George has the pivotal task of leading Nigeria to qualify for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Ajax winger's official debut as head coach will be in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin next month.

Speaking after meeting with top NFF officials in Abuja, Finidi expressed his determination to secure victories in the upcoming World Cup matches.

“The World Cup qualification matches against South Africa and Benin Republic are a collective responsibility for all Nigerians.

I know I am in charge now, and the heavy responsibility is on me to win the two World Cup matches,” Finidi stated.

He emphasized his commitment to ensuring success and qualification for the World Cup, highlighting the readiness of the players to give their all after missing out on the previous edition held in Qatar.

“In terms of having knowledge of our opponents, I have been following them. The world today is a global village; one can monitor anything from the comfort of his sitting room,” he added.

Acknowledging the competition's intensity, Finidi emphasized the need for prayers and support from everyone, emphasizing that Nigeria can succeed with collective effort.

Nigeria currently ranks third in Group C, with Lesotho and Zimbabwe following closely, while Rwanda leads the standings with four points.

South Africa holds the second position with three points, and Benin is at the bottom with one point after two rounds of matches.
