The new NFL season is on the horizon, with the Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosting the Dallas Cowboys at the Raymond James Stadium in Florida in the first match of the regular season on September 9th, and Tom Brady and co. are expected to get off a winning start as they aim to defend the Vince Lombardi Trophy — according to the latest NFL odds.

With preseason now done and dusted, all 32 franchises will have their focus firmly on gameweek 1, and from their recent performances, some much better than others, we have already got a real sense on how each franchise is going to perform this season. That said, let’s take a look at the winners and losers from preseason. Read on to find out more!

Winners – Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs were heavily backed to win the Super Bowl in last year’s American Football betting tips, and they made it all the way to consecutive finals, only to get beaten by surprise winners the Bucs, who many had written off throughout the play-offs. They are the favourites to win the title again this year, and they had a great preseason, winning away to the San Francisco 49ers (19-16) and the Arizona Cardinals (17-10) before beating the Minnesota Vikings 28-25 at the Arrowhead Stadium. They may not be the most convincing victories from the Chiefs, but they will certainly set them in good stead for the regular season. The Chiefs host the Cleveland Browns in their first game of the new campaign on September 12th, and there shouldn’t be any hiccups for coach Andy Reid.

Losers – Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys couldn’t have had a worse preseason, losing all four of their outings before the start of the regular season. The Cowboys were beaten away to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cardinals before losing to their cross-state rivals Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars at AT&T Stadium.  Last season was a nightmarish maiden campaign for Mick McCarthy as the Dallas franchise finished 6-10, and the 57-year-old is the early favourite to be the first coach sacked this season. They have a tough start on the road to the Bucs, and they are expected to be heavily beaten in Tampa.

Winners – New England Patriots

It has been three years now since the last time the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl, which is hard to fathom considering their dominance over the course of the last two decades — reaching the showpiece occasion nine times and winning six of those attempts. Losing the likes of the Brady and Rob Gronkowski has clearly taken its toll on the team. They may not be the most favoured side to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy this year, currently sitting at odds of around 33/1. However, Bill Belichick’s side had a good preseason, beating Washington Football Team 22-13 at the Gillette Stadium before away wins over the Philadelphia Eagles (35-0) and the New York Giants (22-20). They kick start their season with a home fixture against the Miami Dolphins, and if they can pick up the win, they could gain even more momentum.

Losers – Green Bay Packers

After topping the NFC table with a record of 13-3 and reaching the NFC Championship match, where they lost 31-26 at home to the Bucs, the Green Bay Packers are heading into this season as the joint third favourites to win the Super Bowl at 10/1, alongside the Buffalo Bills. But, Matt LaFleur’s side didn’t have the best preseason. The Packers lost to the Texans (26-7) and the New York Jets (23-14) at Lambeau Field before being beaten 19-0 away to the Bills. They start their season with a trip to the Caesars Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints, and they are expected to head back to Green Bay with a victory, which would put their poor preseason results behind them.
