English-born Ghanaian defender Nicholas Akoto was a standout performer in Burton Albion's impressive 5-2 win over Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Akoto marked his presence early in the match, scoring the equalizer in the 13th minute with a powerful header off a well-placed cross from Dylan Williams, leveling the score at 1-1 after Northampton's opening goal from Neo Dobson.

The equalizer sparked Burton Albion’s offensive surge, as they added four more goals to secure a commanding victory.

Dylan Williams, Charlie Webster, Romelle Donovan, and Ben Whitfield all contributed to the scoreline, with Whitfield's long-range strike sealing the win.

Although Northampton’s Martyn Waghorn briefly narrowed the gap to 4-2 in the second half, Burton's defense, led by Akoto, held strong to prevent any further threats.

This victory narrows the head-to-head record between the two sides to an even seven wins apiece, and keeps Burton Albion's hopes alive in the EFL Trophy.

They will now turn their attention to their upcoming League One clash with Stockport County on November 23.
