Nigeria secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a convincing 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the last 16 clash in Abidjan.

Ademola Lookman was the hero for the Super Eagles, scoring both goals to eliminate a disappointing Cameroon side.

Lookman opened the scoring in the 36th minute after Victor Osimhen capitalized on a mistake by Cameroon's Oumar Gonzalez, setting up Lookman for a clinical finish past goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa.

The Atalanta forward sealed the win in the 90th minute, volleying home a precise cutback from Calvin Bassey.

Despite introducing Vincent Aboubakar, the top scorer of the 2021 tournament, Cameroon failed to pose a significant threat, failing to register a shot on target.

The defeat puts pressure on Cameroon coach Rigobert Song, and the team will face scrutiny back home after their early exit.

Nigeria will face Angola in the quarter-finals, and the Super Eagles will look to build on their solid performance against Cameroon as they aim for success in the latter stages of the tournament.
