The Flying Eaglets of Nigeria confirmed their superiority at the 2022 WAFU U-17 Championship as they defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in the finals at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Nigeria started the game on the front foot and caused all sort of problems for the Burkinabe's.

It was no surprise as the Nigerian U-17 side took the lead through the impressive Abubakar Abdulai Iddris who headed home a cross from the left side in the 23rd minute to make it 1-0.

There were several free kicks for both sides as the match was very gritty with a lot of niggling fouls.

Burkina Faso pulled parity on the cusp of half time as Ouedraog headed home to make it 1-1 for his side in a keenly contested half.

After recess, the Nigerian side took the lead just two minutes after restart with the Burkina Faso goalkeeper at fault for the goal which proved to be the winner.

Abubakar Abdulai Iddris pounced onto a howler by Burkina Faso goalkeeper Troare who spilled a tame free kick from Nigeria.

Nigerian striker Abubakar Abdulai Iddris quickly pounced on to the rebound to make it 2-1 for his side and grab his second goal.

There were several chances for both sides to score again as Iddris was played in by Mbata but goalkeeper Troare atoned for his mistake with a good save.

Burkina Faso also had the chance to level through Ouatara Haruna but a defensive masterclass from Richard Odoh foiled the attempt.

Okere struck the cross bar for Nigeria before three minutes from time Aboubakar Camara was afforded all the time in the box after the Nigerian defense were caught napping but he sent his shot narrowly wide off the post.

Nigeria recorded a 2-1 win as they defeated a spirited Burkina Faso side in the WAFU U-17 Zone B tournament.

Both Nigeria and Burkina Faso have qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Algeria.
