Odartei Milla Lamptey, popularly known as Gasmilla has said Nigeria’s Afrobeat genre was formed from Ghana’s Azonto genre.
The ‘Ak3sormoshie’ singer claims the Nigerians took Azonto, changed it and renamed it Afrobeat.
“Azonto is still Afrobeat, I mean we have producers here who can attest to that. The rhythm is somewhat the same, Afrobeat is Akayida-Azonto. Azonto is not dead, we just changed the name and called it something else.” He said on Zylofon FM.
The Ga rapper who seems to have issue with section of Ghanaians giving credit to Sarkodie as the originator of Azonto in Ghana said Ghanaians have killed Azonto by calling it Afrobeats.
The ‘Telemo’ hit singer is set to host his ‘Jooni ma jo’ inter-school dance competition which will target pupils in primary and Junior High School, at Efua Sutherland Park tomorrow, 30th June 2018.
