On 15th April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School, in Chibok, Borno state.


The Nigerian Army has announced that it has been successful in rescuing one of the Chibok school girls and her 6-month-old baby. The troops found Rakiya Abubakar wandering around near Algarno, a former Boko Haram stronghold, the spokesman for the Nigerian Army said. She had a six-month-old baby with her. This information was released in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman.

Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE during the investigation of arrested suspected Boko Haram terrorists discovered one of the abducted Chibok School girls, Rakiya Abubakar, with her six months old baby.

According to preliminary investigation, it was discovered she is the daughter of Abubakar Gali Mulima and Habiba Abubakar of Chibok. She further stated that she was a student of Senior Secondary School Class 3B (SS 3B), before her abduction along with her colleagues on 14th April 2014 by the Boko Haram terrorists.

Rakiya Abubakar is presently undergoing further medical investigation and would soon be released to the Borno State Government.


Rekiya has been taken to see the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima.

In October 2016, 21 of the Chibok girls were released by their Boko Haram abductors. Two other missing girls were also found. This means that only 195 girls are left in captivity.
