The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkwanta North, Mr John Oti Bless, has inaugurated a police station at Tinjase, a border town in the Nkwanta-North District in the Oti Region.

The facility, which was handed over to the Nkwanta-North District Police Command last Saturday, has offices and a residential apartment for seven police officers.
Also, the police station has been connected to a water system and electricity for regular supply of water and power.

The project was fully funded by the MP through his end of service benefit (ESB).

Opening of facility

Mr Bless cut the ribbon to open the facility for use by the police at a brief ceremony held in the border town.

Present at the event were the Nkwanta-North District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Thomas Kwashi Hodanu; the Chief of Tinjase, Ubor Mamunin II, and other opinion leaders.

Promise kept

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the three-term MP said his decision to invest in the establishment of a police station at Tinjase was to boost security in the area given that the town shared border with the Republic of Togo.

He said it was also in fulfilment of a campaign promise he made to ensure that a police station was set up in that area to facilitate the crack down on criminal activities and guarantee the safety of the residents.

Mr Bless urged the police to put the facility to proper use by adhering to proper maintenance culture.

He also called on the security agencies in the district to be more proactive in discharging their duties to ensure that all persons go about their businesses in a peaceful environment.

Good investment

For his part, Mr Hodanu said the inauguration of the police station would be a major boost to the operations of the police in the district who had to operate from rented premises over the years.

He expressed the appreciation of the Police Administration to the MP for the gesture and assured him and the constituents that the facility would be properly utilised to improve security in the district.

He called on other politicians and stakeholders to emulate the gesture of the MP and contribute their quota to improve security in the district.
