The NPP Communication Team of the Ahafo region has began an exercise to plan hundred thousand trees as the country  launches the Green Ghana Project.

Mr Asiedu Alfred popularly known as Nana Adu, who is the NPP Ahafo Regional Communication Director disclosed this to the media Friday.

As part of the Government's agenda of planting five million trees a day, the NPP Ahafo Communication team will also plant a hundred thousand to support this exercise.

According to Nana Adu, the longevity of mankind depends on trees therefore, the indiscriminate cutting down of trees without afforestation will surely affect the life span of humanity and other ecological effects.

"Since the beginning, trees have furnished us with two of life’s essentials, food and oxygen" he said.

"As we evolved, they provided additional necessities such as shelter, medicine, and tools.

"Today, their value continues to increase and more benefits of trees are being discovered as their role expands to satisfy the needs created by our modern lifestyles.

"As the biggest plants on the planet, they give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world's wildlife. They also provide us with the materials for tools and shelter."

He further indicated and appealed to illegal chainsaw operators to desist from deforestation because it will endanger every individual and posterity will never forgive us even in our grave. We, therefore, have no excuse other than to keep Ghana clean and green by greening our environment with trees. Mr Alfred disclosed further that, the Ahafo Regional NPP Communication Directorate will plant trees like Wawa, Odum, Framoo, Aprokuma etc every year within the Ahafo enclave to support NPP and president Akufo-Addo's agenda towards greening Ghana.
