General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has publicly apologised for the party’s past governance shortcomings and assured Ghanaians that lessons have been learned ahead of the party’s renewed bid for power.
Speaking candidly during a recent media engagement, Mr. Kodua acknowledged that while the NPP made notable strides during its time in office, the party also fell short in key areas.
“As a political party, certainly we did our best, but we couldn’t have gotten everything right,” he said. “And I have always said that on behalf of our then government, our political party — certain things that we could not do right. We apologise for it.”
Following its defeat in the 2024 general elections after two consecutive terms in office, the NPP has entered a period of reflection and restructuring.
Mr. Kodua said the party is committed to internal reform and renewal.
“As a party, we are always ready to learn and make sure that when we come back to power, the good things that we did we will build on. And those mistakes that we made — we will not repeat those mistakes," he said.
His remarks come as the NPP prepares for a critical phase in its reorganisation. The party’s presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026, and major constitutional reforms are expected to be ratified at the National Delegates Conference in July 2025.
Mr. Kodua reaffirmed that the NPP’s current focus is not on campaign rhetoric but on rebuilding trust through meaningful reform.
The leadership, he said, is determined to present a stronger, more accountable party to the Ghanaian electorate.
