The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appointed a lawyer Yaw Buabeng Asamoah as its Director of Communications.

Mr. Asamoah, who is the Member of Parliament for Adenta and a lawyer, will be operating in an acting capacity until the party’s National Executive Committee meets to consider his appointment.

Mr. Asamoah is not new to the office since he has served as the party’s deputy director of communications and has been very vocal in defending government and party positions in the media.

Party stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko broke the news on his Facebook wall Wednesday: “Congrats to Yaw Buabeng Asamoah for your appointment as the new Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party. Clearly, there was a huge leadership vacuum in the ruling party’s communication machinery and we are all happy to hear that Chairman Blay, General John Boadu and the team have acted accordingly.”

Highly placed party sources have disclosed that Mr. Buabeng will be assisted by Kofi Agyepong and Richard Nyamaah in an acting capacity. An official communication is expected to be released soon about the new communication structure.
