General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has stated that the party is focusing on internal restructuring and critical self-assessment following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, rather than rushing to regain public favour.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Kodua explained that the NPP’s immediate priority is to understand and address the internal weaknesses that contributed to its electoral loss, in order to rebuild a stronger foundation for future success.
“They say charity begins at home. So internally, what are the leakages? What were the shortfalls of the thing that happened, which culminated in us losing the elections?” he said.
Responding to concerns over the party’s decision to schedule its next presidential primaries for January 31, 2026, he defended the timeline as necessary for proper introspection and accountability.
Mr. Kodua argued that the party’s loss was not solely due to governance performance, but also reflected deeper structural and operational issues that needed to be resolved.
He cited the findings of a post-election review conducted by a special committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye. The committee examined a broad range of factors, including internal party structures, governance, campaign messaging, and communication strategies.
“The committee looked at several aspects, the governance aspect, the party’s internal systems or structures, our campaign strategy and message, and our communication. So they are multifaceted,” he noted.
He stated that the insights from this review would shape the party’s path forward, ensuring that future strategies are grounded in honest reflection and credible reforms.
Mr. Kodua reiterated that the NPP is committed to rebuilding trust among its base and the broader electorate not through political theatrics, but by addressing the root causes of its 2024 defeat.
