The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has called for a cessation of attacks on journalists by political party activists in Ghana.

Executive Secretary of the MFWA, Sulemana Braimah, said the country is being governed by rule of law, therefore, these acts of thuggery must not be countenanced.

On Thursday, some journalists of Ghanaweb.com and TV3 were assaulted by some security personnel of the NPP at the party's headquarters.

The reporters were attacked as they covered a demonstration by some members of the governing New Patriotic Party from the Ellembele Constituency, who had thronged the place to demand a clean register ahead of their elections in January 2018.

Commenting on the incident on his Facebook page, Mr Brimah said: “I am reading about an attack on journalists at the headquarters of the NPP. The NPP is sadly nurturing a culture of thuggery and impunity.

“This must stop. Enough of the violence from party security. Rule of law not rule of force.”
