The Atebubu Traditional Council is likely to make the 2020 parliamentary election a ‘cool chop’ for the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP] after strongly rejecting the candidature of the National Democratic Congress [NDC].

Nana Boakye Yiadom who speaks for the council said his elders “do not recognize” Sanja Nanja who won the NDC parliamentary primaries to represent the NDC in the 2020 election.

He vowed that if the NDC still impose Sanja Nanja on the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency, the council will declare the NPP candidate as the “only” applicant for the parliamentary seat.

“NPP will go unopposed if Sanja will contest for the NDC. We don’t want him,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.

Regardless of the Atebubu Traditional Council’s ban on NDC’s Sanja Nanja that sought to bar him from contesting parliamentary elections in the area, the party’s delegates overwhelmingly endorsed him with 947 votes, as the NDC 2020 parliamentary candidate for the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency in the Bono East Region on Saturday.

The Traditional Council, in April 2016, banned Sanja Nanja, after he insulted the Queenmother of the town, Nana Afia Donyina, on radio, calling her a drunkard, after she accused him of being behind disturbances in the area.
