The opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, has called on Ghanaians to face the New Year with hope despite what it describes as untold hardships Ghanaians are going through.

The NDC attributes the situation to what they call the poor performance of the Akufo-Addo government.

In the NDC’S New Year message signed by the National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the party said it is ready to restore Ghanaians to the path of growth and prosperity with a united team.

Deputy National Youth Organizer of the party, Eric Edem Agbana, who spoke to Citi News also said the cause of the hardship Ghanaians are facing is because of how adamant the NPP government has been to good counsel.

“We do hope that the year 2019 will be far better than 2018, that the hardship, instability of the economy will not be repeated in 2019. However, we know that the Akufo Addo government is not a government that listens, they have virtually ignored all good counsel, that is why we are where are today, but we want Ghanaians to look forward to a much-organized opposition,” he said.

In a statement issued on Monday conveying its New Year message to Ghanaians, the party said it welcomes 2019 with optimism despite the “untold hardship and misery,” the NPP government has plunged the country into in the previous year.

In an assessment of the country in 2018, the statement said, “last year brought in its wake peculiar socio-economic and political challenges, emanating from the incapable leadership, corruption, and maladministration of the NPP government.”

“While experts have predicted very hard times in 2019, we wish to extend a message of hope to fellow citizens; that the NDC is ready and prepared with unity and a common sense of purpose to rescue the nation from the clueless hands of President Akuffo Addo come 2020 general elections, so as to put the nation back on the path of growth and prosperity. As you may be aware, the NDC have hitherto demonstrated that we have a formidable team of efficient hands, waiting to form a government that is not only sensitive to socio-economic plights of its citizens, but also frowns heavily on nepotism and corruption,” the statement said.
