The Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) has want the government to act quickly in dealing with the payment of their delayed allowances.

Majority nurse and midwife interns on National Services are yet to received anything for over eight months, the association says.

A joint statement signed by Dr. Kwaku Asante-Krobea, its President and Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the General Secretary, said "the few, who have received their allowance, were paid for only the month of November, 2019, on level '8' instead of level '12' on the single spine salary structure as negotiated by the GRNA".

The delay is attributed to avoidable bottlenecks in their registration.

"We, therefore, request as a matter of urgency that the Ministry of Health and its agencies and the Ministry of Finance should address the matter and all other bottlenecks related to internship of nurses and midwives on National Service. "

The Association asked that rotation nurses and degree prepared nurses doing their national service should be paid corresponding allowance on 'level 12 low' on the single spine salary structure.

Additionally, the cost of biometric registration of the interns should be borne by the Health Ministry.

Again, all outstanding issues should be resolved by the close of the year to prevent any industrial unrest.
