A Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen is ready to contest the current General Secretary John Boadu when nominations are opened for prospective members of the party to do so.

“I have been Regional Chairman for Brong Ahafo Region, Minister of State and currently a Deputy General Secretary. I need to go forward in life and I can assure you that I will contest for the General Secretary post next time”, he announced on Kumasi-based Wontumi TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

According to the private legal practitioner, going for the 2024 elections, NPP as a political party will need someone with experience to match the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to achieve victory for any one who will become flagbearer in order to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“I am a formidable force to reckon with, experienced and skillful to lead as General Secretary. Under my stewardship, who becomes our flagbearer will have little work to do and win 2024 against NDC”, outspoken Nana Obiri Boahen told listeners.

He, however, warned individuals in the party declaring their intentions to contest 2024 flagbearer position of the party since the leadership of NPP has not opened nomination yet.

“Let’s us be careful to ensure we don’t create factions in the party. It happened in 2004 and if we are not careful, it could take us to opposition again”, Nana Obiri Boahen, a former Deputy Minister of Interior under erstwhile Kufuor administration recounted.
