German-born Ghanaian winger Aaron Opoku has sealed a season long  loan move to lower tier side Osnabruck from Hamburger SV in the current transfer window.

The 22 year old joined his third tier side from his hometown club of Hamburg after passing his medical examination on Monday.

Sporting Director of Osnabruck Amir Shapourzadeh is delighted his side have captured the exciting left sided midfielder.

“Aaron Opoku was at the top of our wish list for the winger we were looking for. He's fast, strong at one-on-one, creates moments of surprise and scores goals. We are convinced that he will enrich the offensive power of our team and that the fans will also enjoy his style of play, ”explains VfL sporting director Amir Shapourzadeh. “In the past, Aaron has already shown what he's made of at Hansa Rostock and in Regensburg. He also currently had various offers from the 3rd division and clubs from abroad. We are pleased that he has decided in favor of the Bremer Brücke and our game idea and we would like to thank those responsible at HSV who made this loan possible. "

Aaron Opoku has played in all of the youth teams at Hamburger SV since the U16 and was already on the pitch for the U19 and U20 national teams of the German Football Association. In 2019 he was loaned to FC Hansa Rostock and played 33 of 38 league games for the then third division club. Five goals and six assists were on the account of the offensive winger. Another loan followed in 2020 - this time to the 2nd Bundesliga to SSV Jahn Regensburg. There he played 22 competitive games. HSV previously extended the contract with Opoku to 2024 ahead of schedule. Now he is on loan to VfL Osnabrück in the Hasestadt.

“With this personnel we are well positioned and variable and now also have a good team across the board with whom we can develop further. Aaron Opoku is the missing piece of the puzzle that Daniel Scherning and I were looking for on the wings. We are pleased that we can now tackle the challenges ahead with a reinforced squad, ”said Shapourzadeh.

Aaron Opuko, who will play for the purple-whites with the shirt number 30, completed the mandatory medical checks on Tuesday and will start team training in the afternoon. “I'm happy that the loan to VfL worked out. Sports director Amir Shapourzadeh and head coach Daniel Scherning have absolutely convinced me of the game idea and the challenge and also put a lot of effort into looking after me. Of course, I also asked Ludovit Reis, among others, and he only gave me positive reports. I signed with VfL with a really good feeling and am now looking forward to getting to know the team, to be on the pitch as quickly as possible and to our loud fans at the Bremer Brücke.
