Volta region's only lawmaker from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Yaw Gyato, has had to seek military assistance to guard his home in his constituency of Krachi East after he became a target for residents who are hurt after missing out on being regional capital.

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, that Dambai was to be the new capital of the newly-created Oti region. But residents of Kete-Krachi were not too happy about that.

This situation has led the NPP member of Parliament to employ the services of military men to protect his Kete-Krachi home and other properties he owns in the area.

According to Mynewsgh.com, the MP had, prior to the announcement of the capital, declared a joint prayer and fasting regiment to touch the heart of President Akufo-Addo so that he will make Kete-Krachi the capital.

Interestingly, Michael Gyato’s parliamentary constituents in Krachi East forms part of Dambai, while he grew up in Kete-Krachi and owns businesses there as well.

The wrath that has greeted the announcement of new regional capitals have made headlines.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that hundreds of aggrieved residents in the Nkoranza municipality of the newly-created region of Bono East on Monday, February 11, 2019, hit the streets to register their displeasure with government of the siting of the new region's capital.

The protest of the people is over what they have described as a sidelining of the Nkoranza township as the capital of the new region.

There has been an uneasy calm over the siting of the capital town of the newly-created Bono East region. Residents of Nkoranza believe government had been trying to overlook their town for Techiman.
