Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has showcased its new 10x optical zoom camera today in its home country. This is built on the company's 5x hybrid optical zoom system, which was first showcased at Mobile World Congress 2017. However, that never made it to any commercial device since then.
Oppo did not demonstrate how the technology works but did say that it will reveal more details about this at MWC 2019.

According to the company, this 10x hybrid optical zoom technology uses a triple camera setup which includes an ultrawide-angle camera, a primary camera, and lastly a third camera for the telephoto action with periscope style setup. Oppo claims that the transition from 1x to 10x optical zoom will be seamless and design wise, it will not be thick and will fit on a smartphone.

Even though the company said that the setup is ready for mass production but it did not specify the timeline of when we will actually see it on a commercially available device.

Along with that, Oppo also showcased a new development in the in-display fingerprint sensor technology with an expanded area on the screen that is capable on reading two fingerprints simultaneously. Oppo claims that the size of this fingerprint sensor is 15 larger than the current one. Oppo confirmed that this new development will be available on the smartphones by the end of the year.

Incidentally, Xiaomi's co-founder and president Lin Bin teased a similar in-display tech on the same day through a short video. The video shows how Bin taps on different parts of the smartphone screen to unlock the device. Xiaomi is said to have spent over half a year in improving the in-display fingerprint sensor and aims to improve two areas – more reliability and easy accessibility. There is no clarity on when Xiaomi plans to bring this tech to masses or if it will actually be debuting in which Xiaomi smartphone.
