Self-confessed Aston Villa fan and Huddersfield winger Joe Lolley commented on the side’s late win but questioned Steve Bruce’s decision not to start Jordan Ayew, hailing him as the club’s best player.

The Midlands side battled to a late 2-1 victory over Reading on Tuesday evening, which was settled by a penalty from Ayew in stoppage time.

It marked Steve Bruce’s first win in charge of the club and only the second win of the Championship campaign for the Midlands giants.

Lolley aired his surprise at the late victory on his personal Twitter account but stated that he couldn’t understand why the Ghana international wasn’t starting.

Ayew, 25, made an appearance from the club’s bench in the midweek victory, coming on for striker Rudy Gestede after 77 minutes.

He has played in 13 encounters, scoring three goals for Villa this season, but hasn’t started either of new manager Bruce’s first two games in charge.

The former Birmingham, Sunderland and Hull boss is looking to turn around the club’s fortunes after a dismal start to life in England’s second tier.

The Midlands outfit now sits in 17th place with 14 points from 13 fixtures, and they will host Fulham at Villa Park on Saturday.footballgana.com
