Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper and Pollster, Ben Ephson has said that the rejection of an ambassadorial job by immediate past Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba is a clear indication of how upset she is about the recent reshuffle exercise by the President.

According to him, Otiko would’ve been better off with a removal from office than reasigning her to Italy as an ambassador, which in his view could be interpreted as a demotion from her former position.

“Otiko is saying thank you Mr. President but take your job, if she worked very hard for them and they now feel like demoting her then that is fine, I’m sure if they had said that she was being removed, she would’ve accepted it than this reassignment” he said.

Speaking on Kasapa fm with host of Anopa Kasapa, Kweku Owusu Adjei, the renowned pollster said the decision by Madam Otiko Djaba to quit active politics must be respected and although her reasons might be weird, it will be necessary to allow her some space to relax.

Two weeks after the President through the director of communications at the presidency, Mr. Eugene Ahin announced the maiden reshuffle of the president’s appointees, Otiko Djaba has declined president Akufo-Addo’s appointment to serve as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy

In an interview with Daily Graphic she said her decision to retire from politics is to enable her focus on her family and take care of her ex-husband who is ill.

“At 56 years, I want to relax and enjoy my family and life and therefore, I am not ready to take up the appointment as Ambassador to Italy……. I am the one who has been taking care of him since he got sick and I cannot abandon him now” she said.

She said she has officially communicated to the presidency declining the new appointment.
