Black Stars head coach Otto Addo remains optimistic about Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite a winless start in their first three Group F games.
Ghana was held to a goalless draw by Sudan at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra during a tightly contested fixture.
The Black Stars dominated much of the game, particularly in the second half, but failed to convert their chances.
Despite this, Addo believes Sudan was fortunate to come away with a point and expressed confidence in his team's ability to turn things around in the next match.
In his post-match press conference, Addo acknowledged the team's defensive solidity but admitted the final touches let them down.
He added, “We played well. Defensively, we were solid. We knew it would be tough because they would have the fans with them, so we relied on counter-attacks, but our final product wasn’t the best."
The coach remained upbeat about Ghana's qualification prospects, drawing comparisons with their success in World Cup qualifiers.
"Ghana is better than Senegal, so being on top in the World Cup qualifiers and winning all our home games, we will qualify. The draw here is a huge boost for us," he stated confidently.
Ghana will face Sudan again in the return leg on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina, Libya, where Addo hopes his side will secure a crucial victory.
