Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his delight with Ghana’s dominant 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff of the 2025 Unity Cup.
The emphatic result came at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, helping the team bounce back from a narrow 2-1 semifinal defeat to Nigeria. The victory not only secured a podium finish but also served as a major morale booster ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers later this year.
Captain Jordan Ayew opened the scoring in the 15th minute to set the tone for Ghana’s commanding display. Debutants Razak Simpson of Nations FC and Mohammed Fuseini of Union Saint-Gilloise followed with first-half goals that extended Ghana’s lead to 3-0 before the break.
In the second half, Cercle Brugge’s new signing Lawrence Agyekum added a fourth with a well-taken strike in the 57th minute, marking his first senior international goal.
Speaking after the match, Otto Addo praised the team’s strong response and highlighted the emergence of new talent within the squad.
He emphasized the value of such games in assessing future national team prospects.
“In general, we got a lot of answers, and it’s also good to look to the future,” he said. “I think some of the boys used the chances. They did really well, and surely we will continue to observe them.”
Addo also reflected positively on Ghana’s overall form, stating, “We played well in the last World Cup qualifiers. We will observe and see how the boys do at their clubs, and like I said, today I’m very satisfied.”
With the Unity Cup campaign concluded, the Black Stars will now turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Ghana is set to face Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchdays 7 and 8 of the qualification series in September.
