Former Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston has expressed belief that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is deeply disappointed with the team’s poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and is determined to bounce back from the setback.

Ghana’s failure to win a single match in the qualifiers, capped by a shocking 2-1 defeat to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw the Black Stars miss out on the continental showpiece for the first time in 20 years.

The last time Ghana failed to qualify for the tournament was in 2004.

With public pressure mounting for Addo’s dismissal, Kingston argued that firing the coach would be a premature decision.

"For me at the moment, we shouldn't change anything. I think Otto is even disappointed in himself.

And I believe by now he's trying to ask himself questions about what really happened and what he can do to improve it," Kingston told 3Sports.

Kingston added that Addo, as a coach, would not be happy with the team's results and is likely already looking for ways to rectify the situation.

Despite the setback, Ghana’s focus now shifts to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where the Black Stars currently sit second in Group I after four matches, offering them a chance to redeem themselves.
