Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has extended a public apology to Ghanaians following the team's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The apology came after Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Niger in their final Group F match on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium, a loss that confirmed the team’s absence from the continental tournament in Morocco.

In his post-match interview, Addo expressed deep remorse for the team's underwhelming performance, acknowledging the disappointment of fans nationwide.

“I am ready to apologise. I am so sorry that we did not do well and qualify. I am sorry because I know how it feels and how Ghanaians are hurt. I am so sorry,” Addo said, visibly pained by the outcome.

Ghana’s qualification campaign was marked by a series of lackluster performances, with the Black Stars failing to win a single game in six matches.

The team finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points, a stark contrast to group leaders Angola, who secured 14 points.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to evaluate the state of the national team and outline plans for its future in the wake of this setback.
