Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has dismissed growing calls for his resignation following Ghana’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Niger in their final Group F match of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
Speaking after Monday’s match at the Accra Sports Stadium, Addo boldly declared that stepping down is not an option.
“I’m not the person who can resign. If I had done this, I’d never have become a player or even a coach,” Addo stated. “If you know where I have come from as a person to arrive at this job, you wouldn’t even ask about resignation.”
Despite widespread criticism from fans and pundits, Addo maintained his composure, brushing off external pressure.
“People shouting and telling me to resign can't affect me,” he said.
Ghana’s AFCON qualifying campaign was disastrous, with the team failing to win a single match in Group F.
The campaign started with a 1-0 loss to Angola and included a series of underwhelming performances: a 1-1 draw with Niger, two poor outings against Sudan, and a concluding loss to Niger.
The Black Stars finished last in the group with only three points from six matches.
Angola topped the group with 14 points, followed by Sudan with eight, and Niger with seven.
The result marks one of the Black Stars’ worst qualifying campaigns in history, intensifying scrutiny on Addo’s leadership and the team’s future direction.
