Otumfuo Foundation commissions two-storey teachers’ bungalow at St. Louis SHS

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation has commissioned a two-storey teachers’ bungalow at St. Louis Senior High School in Kumasi to help resolve long-standing accommodation challenges faced by the school’s teaching staff.
The project — financed by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited and constructed by Living Grace Company Ltd — commenced in September 2024 and was completed within a year.
The commissioning ceremony was performed on behalf of the Asantehene by his Hiahene and Board Chairman of the Foundation, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, supported by Joyce Kissiwaa Oduro, a representative from Ghana Gas.
With a student population exceeding 5,500 and 229 teaching staff, only about 30 teachers currently live on campus. The new facility therefore provides a much-needed boost to staff accommodation and teaching convenience.
Although originally designed as a three-storey structure, only two floors have been completed so far. Nana Prof. Boachie-Adjei explained that the Foundation opted for a partial commissioning due to the pressing need to house teachers.
“We couldn’t wait for the additional funds because we had to move the teachers in. This is just a partial commissioning; the full commissioning will follow once the third floor is completed,” he assured.
He reaffirmed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s commitment to educational development, describing the project as a reflection of the King’s vision to promote quality education through infrastructure and teacher welfare.
“The commissioning of this teachers’ apartment is a testament to His Majesty’s royal commitment to education. His vision for a better Ghana is being realized through initiatives like this,” he said.
Representing Ghana Gas CEO Mrs. Judith Adjoba Blay, Joyce Kissiwaa Oduro, Senior Officer in charge of Community Relations and CSR, said the company’s support forms part of its corporate social responsibility to enhance community well-being.
“Providing decent accommodation for teachers creates stable, dedicated, and inspired teaching communities. When teachers are comfortable, students thrive, and when students thrive, the nation’s future shines brighter,” she emphasized.
The Headmistress of St. Louis SHS, Mrs. Ama Kyerewaa Benefo, expressed deep gratitude to both the Otumfuo Foundation and Ghana Gas for their intervention.
“A few months ago, it looked like a mirage, but today, thanks to the excellent cooperation between the Foundation and Ghana Gas, this dream has become reality,” she said.
The new bungalow forms part of the Otumfuo Foundation’s broader vision to promote quality education through the improvement of school infrastructure and teacher welfare across Ghana.
