The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has printed over 31,935 chip-embedded passports since the introduction of its 24-hour passport printing service on April 28, 2025, according to Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The Minister shared the update following an unannounced midnight visit to the Passport Office on May 24, where he assessed the ongoing operations under the new system.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Mr. Ablakwa praised staff for their dedication and commitment to the initiative. “Earlier this week, I paid a surprise visit to the passport head office at midnight to check on our new 24-hour chip-embedded passport printing operations. I commend my hardworking and patriotic staff for their impressive work ethic,” he wrote.
Highlighting the progress made since the launch, he added: “So far, we have printed a remarkable 31,935 chip-embedded passports since the rollout commenced on April 28. The RESET is on — we shall not disappoint the good people of Ghana. For God and Country.”
The 24-hour service and introduction of chip-embedded passports are part of a broader strategy to modernize Ghana’s passport system, enhance document security, and ensure global compliance with biometric travel standards.
The new chip-embedded passports feature advanced security elements, including biometric data, to prevent fraud and facilitate smoother international travel for Ghanaians.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering efficient and secure services, promising that the momentum would be sustained in the interest of citizens and the country’s international image.
