Parliament earlier today Tuesday February 5 sworn in the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency,  Hon Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

The swearing in was done by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Joseph Owusu after she has taken the Oaths of Allegiance.

The Minority however walked out in protest against the swearing in was done.

The Minority came in to the chamber with placards with the inscriptions "bloody widow".

Hon. Muntaka Mubarak spoke on behalf of the Minority.

Mrs Lydia Alhassan was welcomed by her colleagues  in the Majority side of the house.

The Deputy Majority Speaker and the MP for  Dome/ Kwabenya constituency expressed her excitement over Mrs Alhassan victory stating that it has increased the number of women in Parliament to 38.

Commenting on the timing of the walkout by the Minority, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Joseph Osei Owusu, noted the Minority has set a precedent to which reference will be made in future.

Mrs Lydia Seyram Alhassan comes to replace the vacant seat of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency following the death of Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
