A pressure group calling itself the Concerned Citizens of Ghana has withdrawn a petition it previously submitted to state investigative bodies over the alleged unlawful involvement of an unlicensed individual in operations of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, the group said its decision followed new information it had received regarding the matter.

“We write further to our earlier petition on the above subject. Due to recent information received on the matters raised in our petition, we wish to withdraw the petition made against Roger Frimpong Kwakye or Goldstrom and any transaction he may have with Bawa-Rock LTD and GoldBod,” the statement said.

The group had earlier petitioned the Office of the Attorney-General, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), urging them to investigate what it described as the alleged unlawful involvement of an unlicensed and investigated individual in key GoldBod operations. The petition warned of potential abuse and possible financial loss to the state.

In the earlier petition, the group raised what it described as “grave concerns” about the activities of Roger Frimpong Kwakye, alleging that he was playing a central role in GoldBod operations despite his company, Goldstrom, not being licensed under the GoldBod framework. They further claimed that Mr. Kwakye was under active investigation by the OSP over issues relating to financial loss to the state.

According to the petitioners, the alleged involvement violated provisions of the GoldBod Act, which restricts critical functions such as assaying, smelting, and gold pricing to certified and licensed entities.

The group questioned how an individual under criminal investigation could meet the fit-and-proper requirements to influence GoldBod operations.

In their initial petition, the Concerned Citizens of Ghana made three key demands: an immediate investigation into Mr. Kwakye’s role and Goldstrom’s involvement; the suspension of any individual or entity operating within GoldBod without the required licence or employment status; and full disclosure of all related contracts, including the due diligence processes used in selecting vendors.
