Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor was in the stands on Tuesday night as Newcastle United beat lower tier side Oxford United.

The new Black Stars coach has been in Europe scouting Ghanaian players and is currently in the United Kingdom where he held talks with the Ayew brothers, Jefferey Schlupp, Tariq Fosu among others.

Newcastle United had to rely on a late Allan Saint Maximin solo goal to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in 14 years.

Despite Newcastle United's injury crisis, Christian Atsu could not make the starting eleven and had to settle for a place on the substitutes bench and only came on when the match went into extra time.

Atsu came on as a substitute to replace Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb in the 103rd minute of extra time before French winger Allan Saint Maximin grabbed the winner for the Magpies.

Newcastle wanted to offload the winger during the winter transfer window with West Bromwich Albion showing keen interest in his signature but the Ghanaian chose to stay with the Geordies and fight for his place in the team
