A suspected thief who works as a mason has bitten off the thumb of one of three policemen who attempted to arrest him for stealing at Millennium City near Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.

The victim Corporal Kassim Aminu in the company of two of his colleagues and a complainant in the case went to arrest the suspect for stealing after an official complaint had been lodged since last year.

According to the police, the suspect had resisted arrest three consecutive times and later went into hiding until Monday February 1, 2021 at about 10pm.

The complainant who herself has been on a hunt for the 22-year-old mason, Eric Awutey, alerted the police his return and they proceeded to the scene but he became furious and started fighting with police and bit off the right thumb of the officer in charge.

He also succeeded damaging his two Techno mobile phone completely all value GHC2000. As if that was not enough, mother of the suspect from nowhere also came in together with his relatives and prevented police from arresting him

Police investigators disclosed that reasonable minimum force was adopted and he  was overpowered and brought to the station for questioning.

Eric Awutey is set to be arraigned before court and provisionally charged with stealing and resisting lawful arrest.
