Plan Ghana, a non governmental organization  has made a donation of sports equipment to the girls soccer teams of nine basic schools in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The Organization that seeks to promote Girls education donated a set of jersey, goalkeeper’s gloves, whistle, 18 pairs of boots, with stockings, shin pads and training verse, six balls, 20 cones and 2 desktop computers to each of the teams formed last Academic year by Physical Education teachers led by the District P.E Coordinator, Wonder Girentsi.
The gesture begun on Thursday, October 24 at the District Education Office at Sogakope and continued to each of the 9 schools; Hikpo, Agbakpoe, Larvae, and Dzogborve basic schools. The rest that benefitted include Dordorkope, Kpotame, Tadze, and Agbogbla basic schools.

Speaking to TalksenseSports, District Development Coordinator at Plan Ghana responsible for South Tongu, Seth Asomaning says they want to empower the girls to realize their potentials.

“As part of our Educational program we support Children, especially girls. And so in order to ensure that there is that equality, that gender balance, we had the girls football activity to empower the girls to also come up while knowing the prospects in football. We want the girls to also become effective, as football brings team work, makes you stronger and time conscious.

“We are also working together with the Ghana Health Service to do an Adolescent Health Activity with the same football teams.” He revealed.

Public Relations Officer for the South Tongu District Education Boniface Prince Nutakor, was full of praise of Plan Ghana’s endowment.

“Plan Ghana has been helping us a lot and for this particular donation, they intend to organize a Girls’ soccer tournament. Ghana Education Service is grateful to all that Plan International Ghana is doing. We are very happy and we really appreciate it because some time ago they donated jerseys to the schools here.”

With the level of Girls soccer in the Region as a whole, this will encourage the girls who have the talents but afraid of exhibiting the skills due to lack of motivation and equipment.

Plan International Ghana, a Child centered NGO established in Ghana in 1992, focuses on Education, Child Protection, Household food security and Disaster Preparedness.
