The Ghana Mineworkers local Union is asking President Akufo-Addo to sack the Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) immediately.

Dr. Kojo Opare Hammond is accused of procurement breaches and engaged in sacking staff for no reason. The staff have threatened to deal with the Managing Director if he comes to the office today.

A petition is to be presented to the chairman of the mother Union, Ghana Mineworkers Union to forward it to the management of the company.

The local PMSU secretary for the Ghana Mineworkers Union, Agnes Ayitey “we have condoned irregularities for quite too long. Hon. Opare Hammond came to this institution with his own management staff which is not helping the company he is floating the administrative processes; he handpicks, and he promotes, if you don’t gossip to him he doesn’t promote you, exorbitant board allowances, he has increased board allowances to 729% whiles he gives the staff 12% per year. They have had 26 board meetings as at yesterday since January. He is also floating procurement processes…we want him out, we have petition our mother body”

However, in an interview with JoyBusiness, Dr.Opare Hammond said he does not have the full facts of the case and he is waiting to get the petition from the workers.

He has however denied all the allegations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Opare Hammond has agreed to a meeting with the Union leaders this afternoon to discuss the issues.

The General Secretary of the Union, Prince William Ankrah has told JoyBusiness they will also petition the president.

Mr William Ankrah has therefore advised the workers to go back into their offices and await a response from the Union.
