Police in the Western Region have arrested four persons in connection with the violent incident that occurred at the Nkroful Magistrate Court and the Esiama Police Divisional Headquarters last week that saw one person die in the process.

It said the four suspects were among the youth who rioted on the said day demanding the release of their colleagues who weres standing trial for allegedly encroaching on the mining concession of Adamus Resources Limited.

The four, Richard Tetteh, Kwame Gorkeh Miah, Michael Anyimiah, and Cosmos Gadekor were arrested on Thursday, April 7, 2022.


According to police, the four, as part of the group, vandalized rooms and caused damage to vehicles at the police station.

“Four people have been arrested on Thursday, April 7, 2022, by the Western Regional Police Command in connection with the attacks on the Nkroful Magistrate Court, the Esiama Police Divisional Headquarters and the Ellembelle District Assembly. The four (4) suspects, were among a group of people who rioted at the District Magistrate Court, Nkroful on 1st April 2022, to demand the release of their colleagues who were standing trial at the Court. The group also attacked the Ellembelle District Assembly and threatened to assault the District Chief Executive. The four suspects were among the group that also stormed the Esiama Police Station, vandalized the rooms and caused damage to vehicles parked at the station, 2 buses and 1 Toyota Hilux Pickup,” it said in a statement on its Facebook page.

According to police, they are pursuing at least 22 others who are currently on the run, and are hopeful that they will catch up with them and put them before the law.

“While we count on the help and support of every well-meaning inhabitant of our country, we assure you that we will not relent on our efforts to ensure that law and order prevail in our society,” it added.

According to an eyewitness to the incident at the court premises, a suspect, Solomon Eduku Ackah, was arrested on the concession of Adamus Resources Limited, and the youth of Teleku Bokazo rushed to the court premises to witness the case after the police brought him to court.

“While they were sitting outside, the military men began shooting at them and the bullet, unfortunately, killed one of them by name Andrews Donkor who was sitting somewhere witnessing the event. The bullet entered his heart and he lost his life while they were taking him to the Ekwe hospital,” the eyewitness said.
