Police in the Eastern Region have uncovered a large Indian hemp plantation farm at Anum Apapam in the Ayesuano District.

Acting on intelligence from the drug and law enforcement unit, personnel from the Eastern Regional Police laid ambush in the farm at dawn but were unable to make any arrest as there was no one in  the farm at that time.

However the Police have been able to destroy the weed farm which covers a large tract of land in the mostly farming community.

It is believed the said owner has been involved in the growing and cultivation of the narcotic drug for a while now.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Francis Gormado confirmed the news insisting that his outfit are currently carrying out investigations which lead to the arrest of the owners of the weed farm.

“Actually, we were trying to get the faceless people behind the whole thing. Yesterday when we got there, we tried our best to get the perpetrators but we couldn’t get them. But looking at stage of the crop, we need to be proactive so that the crop does not leave the farm to the market. It will be difficult to control it at that level. So, what we did yesterday was that, we actually destroyed the entire farm which is about five acres of Indian Hemp but we are still pursing the owners of the farm. When we get them, they will face the full rigors of the law,” he said.

Police also retrieved unspecified quantities of dried leaves suspected to be harvested cannabis from the farm.
