The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for a group who identified themselves as the “NDC Youth of Obuasi” to face justice.
This was after a video of them threatening violence ahead of the December 7 election surfaced online.
The viral video captured the group delivering a strongly worded warning to the Electoral Commission (EC) while wearing t-shirts of the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama.
They alleged bias and vowed to declare their own election results if unsatisfied with the official process.
They also declared their intention to resist law enforcement efforts to maintain order on election day.
In a statement, the police classified the group’s conduct as “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” a violation of section 207 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).
“We wish to state that the behaviour of the group constitutes the offense of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
