The mother of a 3-year-old son is currently in the grips of the police after she carelessly left her son to be trapped inside a red Honda CRV Sport utility vehicle (SUV).

The toddler who was wearing a sweater was strapped into his car seat and begging to get out the vehicle for at least 15 minutes.

Police found that the boy's mother, 32-year-old Mona Lisa Gomes, was inside the College Point store, shopping.

The mother and her two daughters were walking through the parking lot just before 4 p.m. as the temperature hit around 75 degrees — when they noticed the toddler and called 911, police said.

“The window was kind of opened, and (the toddler) was just telling me, ‘I want air,’ and like, ‘I want my mom,’ and everything. I’m trying to calm him down,” Kristine Vicente, one of the daughters, told ABC News.

Cops swiftly arrived on the scene, broke the driver side window and rescued the child.

Gomes returned from her shopping trip about ten minutes later and was arrested for acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said.

Video of the incident posted to the Citizen app shows a uniformed officer holding the tot in the parking lot while waiting for the mother to return.

The child was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.
