A wild hunt for an Okada driver by the police at the Timber Market in Accra has led to the death of an innocent 50-year-old man.

The man was killed by a stray bullet intended to hit the Okada driver. So far, it remains unknown who this policeman is as eyewitness accounts show he runs away leaving an unregistered motorbike and a helmet.

The victim, who is a pipe bender at the market died upon arriving at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital amidst blood oozing out of his belly.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased pipe bender are calling for justice especially when the police officer in question is nowhere to be found.

So far, it remains unsure is the police officer is part of the special taskforces to fight crime and robbery using motorbikes. The use of motorbikes is part of new reforms taken by the police to deal with crime across the country.

This is the first time a shoot and run case involving a police officer has been recorded. Meanwhile, a full-blown investigation is expected to be conducted.
