Kumasi Asante Kotoko's Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto will reportedly depart the club when the Ghana Premier League season comes to an end.

The former Black Stars coach made a return to Ghana for the first time in March 2021 since leaving in 2004 as the Black Stars coach.

According to Nhyira FM, the Portuguese trainer has decided to end his brief stint with Asante Kotoko when the current season comes to a close.

With two matches to end the season, the porcupine warriors will play against Bechem United next week before playing against Elmina Sharks at home in their last match of the 2020/2021 campaign.

The coach has been under serious scrutiny since the club's 1-0 loss to Hearts with a section of the Kotoko fans of the opinion that he has done very little to improve on the fortunes of the team.

Accra Hearts of Oak now lead the Ghana Premier League table with 60 points whiles Asante Kotoko lie second with 57 points after 32 round of matches.

Mariano Barreto was appointed as replacement for Maxwell Konadu who was sacked in December 2020 after just five matches in the season.
